Reports
of the explosion, which is believed to have occurred on Saturday,
October 18, have been confirmed by the Deputy Police Public Relations
Officer for the state, Ejiroro Ahwara.
He said via a statement today:
“The
Command received information that at about 10: 30 p.m. on Saturday that
there was an explosion at Dennis Osadebey Avenue, Benin City.’’
“The IED used in the attack has been recovered by the Bomb Disposal Unit for analysis, while some suspects have been arrested”
Ahwara also added that officers attached to the Special Anti-Bomb Squad had been deployed to the scene of the explosion.
The blast was set off by an Improvised Explosive Device (IED), made up of two tiger batteries of 15 volts, he added.
No lives were lost in the incident and investigations are still ongoing.
