The Police acted on a tip off from indigenes of Emi village in Owerri North local government area and stormed the Emi river at about 3.30am when initiation process for new members was ongoing. The cultists were arrested after a showdown with the police.
Various charms, weapons and hard drugs were found in their possession. Although many of the prospective cultist that were arrested explained bitterly that they were being forcefully initiated against their
will; One of them, Emenike Lawrence explained how he was deceived into the initiation plan.

Lawrence in his words..."I went out with one of his friend who said I should follow him to go and see a friend of his. I escorted him because he said that his friend is going to buy us drinks and when we are through, we will come back home to Mission side. We reached there, some boys came out and started beating me. They took me inside a very big forest and then started beating us. That was their form of initiation before the police came and started shooting gun." he said.
The Imo State Commissioner of police said Abdulmajid Ali while speaking with newsmen on the matter said; "They call them cult but I see them as potential armed robbers, kidnappers. These are guys that are being initiated into this kind of horrendous crime. We are trying to see if we can link them to the robbery, kidnap and murder cases that we are investigating at the moment", the CP said
It would be recalled that just few days ago,cultist went on rampage in Obiaruku Community of Delta State killing the native doctor that supplies them with charms.
